Since I’m wearing a yellow bridesmaid dress this summer, I’m starting to pay special attention to this hue, and this whimsical wedding stood out from the crowd. Full of personal DIY touches and bright florals by Laura Miller, I’ve only just begun soaking up this sunshine-filled beauty. Jasmine Lee worked her magic behind the lens and you can see every colorful moment right here.
From The Bride… When it came down to planning our wedding, amidst the chaos and excitement, the most important thing was that this wedding represent the personalities of me and my husband. In knowing we were having a small, 70 guest wedding at a vintage winery, I wanted to ensure our guests (close family and friends) felt like they were at OUR wedding. The theme of our wedding was whimsical, vintage love and we made sure to feature little details to express ourselves on the best day of our lives. I found that with a little patience and with the help of Etsy, Yelp and some amazing vendors, you really can have everything personalized to be exactly what you want on your big day!
When it came down to floral arrangements and table decor, we worked with the amazingly talented, Laura Miller, from Oakland. Laura created some of the most beautiful and unique floral arrangements we had ever seen and was excited to collaborate and lead the way on fun DIY projects! To tell the vintage love story, we used arrows as our wedding symbol – they showed up on everything from the invitations, to the bridesmaids’ necklaces, to the place settings on the table. And yes, you guessed it, those place setting arrows were the DIY child of my and Laura’s dreams. We wrapped different colors of embroidery thread around 70 (plus a few for good measure) wooden dowels, added feathers and painted the tips rose gold. They were beautiful and are sitting in my living room to this day! I worked with several Etsy vendors as well, however, one in particular really stole the spotlight. I collaborated with Etsy designer, Arrow and Ink Designs (perfect name for our theme – complete coincidence!) on the design and layout of our invitations, response cards and ceremony programs. Daily email communication took place with this helpful vendor and the end product was unique, custom wedding stationery that illustrated us… literally! Those silhouettes you see on our invitations are actually custom drawings of us!
Our wedding rings and the necklace I wore, were custom designed by an amazing local East Bay jewelry designer. We repurposed a ring that belonged to my Great-Grandma (who I am named after) for the diamonds and gold for my ring and necklace, and my Grandpa’s wedding band for part of my husband’s ring. Having something that belonged to my family and repurposed in such a special way made our wedding rings that much more meaningful. Everyday, I get to look down at my wedding ring and think of not only my amazing husband, but of my Great-Grandma and family history. We also added some personal touches to our ceremony, such as writing and reciting our own vows and walking down the aisle to Arcade Fire and Beach House. Lastly, one of the most memorable parts of our reception was a video that my Dad created for us. In ten minutes, he was able to tell the story of our lives, from birth through college, to the day we met and through present day. I get chills when I picture showing this video to our Grandchildren someday.
All in all, the planning process was made easy with help from supportive vendors who genuinely cared about us and our wedding day was filled with love, happiness and fun. And that’s all you can ask for!
